The South African Centre for Essential Community Services (SACECS) is an Eskom Research Centre within the Eskom Resources and Strategy Division, Research, Development and Demonstration Department. The objective of SACECS is to identify, develop and implement technologies that have a beneficial impact on the quality of life of South African communities. In pursuit of this objective, it is crucial to adopt and adhere to the people driven approach so that the project is accepted and internalised by the community and to ensure sustainable socio-economic developments.
To be a technology delivery mechanism for the provision (implementation) of sustainable projects in rural communities primarily in the areas of water sanitation and healthcare, alternative energy services and technology for small business development.
